During the upcoming General Assembly, world leaders will gather at the UN Climate Summit to discuss their plans to combat climate change. I believe this is an opportunity to bring our sense of urgency to bear and communicate our demands as women and NGOs that work on the intersection of gender and climate emergency. While we will not have a seat at the negotiating table, we can bring the power of our collective voice into the headlines generated by a strong, united and public outcry.
On September 20, three days before the UN Climate Summit in NYC (and a visit from Greta Thunberg), young people and adults will go on climate strike all across the US and the world to demand action be taken to address the climate crisis. Millions will take to the streets globally. In New York, we will march and rally to demand real action by our elected officials and world leaders. For more information visit #StrikeWithUs.
During that week, I will be facilitating two workshops open to the public focusing on the effects of climate change on women.
